Uniting Voices to Promote Mental Health Rights, Dignity, and Inclusion

Established in 2011, the Mental Health Coalition – Sierra Leone (MHC-SL) is a national advocacy organization dedicated to improving mental health awareness, strengthening support systems, and protecting the rights of persons with mental health and psychosocial disabilities. Formed in response to the growing need for mental health advocacy in the country, the Coalition brings together government institutions, civil society organizations, service providers, community leaders, and persons with lived experience to work collectively toward inclusive, high-quality mental health care and support across Sierra Leone.

A society that respects and protects the human rights and dignity of vulnerable persons, persons with disabilities, those with lived mental health and psychosocial (MHPS) experience & families, and service providers and provides non-discriminatory/inclusive service and high-quality care and support for all—especially vulnerable persons.

To raise awareness around the burden of MHPS and other forms of disabilities in Sierra Leone and campaign for increased commitment to and resources for all forms of disabilities, including MHPS, both at community and national levels.

A National Coalition Advancing Mental Health Rights and Support in Sierra Leone

The Mental Health Coalition – Sierra Leone (MHC-SL) is a collaborative network of organizations, institutions, and individuals working to advance mental health and psychosocial support across the country. Since its establishment in 2011 and formal registration in 2013, the Coalition has brought together stakeholders from government, civil society, disability rights groups, faith-based institutions, traditional leaders, and persons with lived experience to advocate for improved policies, stronger mental health systems, and inclusive services that protect the rights and dignity of vulnerable populations in Sierra Leone.

By working with government institutions, community leaders, service providers, and persons with lived experience, we strive to build supportive communities where everyone can access quality care, protection, and opportunity.
